New European Commission guidelines for managing product recalls

New European Commission guidelines for managing product recalls

The European Commission has published new guidelines for businesses to manage product recalls and other corrective actions. They provide practical advice to producers or distributors of consumer products on sale in the EU. The advice builds upon the first guide for businesses to manage product recalls published in 2004. The new guidelines emphasise the obligations imposed on producers and distributors by the General Product Safety Directive and incorporate the new risk assessment methodology set out in EC Decision 2010/15/EU.
